Do we know whether a standard 2m/440 power amplifier designed for FM transmission is also 'safe' and appropriate to use for D-Star transmission?

I was curious so I researched a little - it seems that at least Mirage amps work well with D-Star. I gather the big thing is how fast the T/R relay engages, because if it's too slow, it might not allow the first D-Star headers to get out, so I imagine a good quality one is likely important.
