Signal Butte Portable Ops Hike
August 22 @ 6:00 am - 5:00 pm MDT
We have a hike/deployment set for Signal Butte on August 22nd. This is an experience unlike any other. From a parking lot we take a trail that starts out easy and soon turns into “hell-on-foot”. While not straight up (there are switch-backs), it is a rugged climb, especially for those who pack too much gear. On top you are welcomed by a stunning 360 degree view and plenty of trees for antennas and such. We learned a lot from last year’s trek, to say the least. Pack light, bring a small shelter/tarp, plenty of water, and leave the linear amp at home (ask around and you will find out who brought an amp).
The plan is to meet early, convoy to Pike National Forest beyond Woodland Park and Divide up Hwy 24, then a 2-3 mile drive through the forest. This last road will accommodate most vehicles. Hike, set-up and operate until about 2:30-3:00 pm then head back to Old Colorado City for Rudy’s BBQ. Rudy’s of course is the highlight of the trip back home. Also depending on how the social distancing requirement is going, we may require one person (or family) per vehicle.
Keep an eye on the News Feed on the website and this spot for any updates. Times below are estimates and will be updated as plans are finalized.
