I have a general question for those in the know.
I have been thinking about adding a Piexx interface to my Icom 751A in order to allow me to play with digital modes. I reached out last week to the manufacturer to find out availability, and I have not heard back. It shows available on the website, but I'm worried that it might be phantom inventory.
Should I try to reach out on the secondary market? Or should I keep saving money until I can afford a Icom 7300?
Thanks (73),
Ed L.
I've gone ahead and ordered a Piexx UX14. I'll report on my level of success with rig control.
Thanks,
Ed L.
I installed the UX-14px in my Icom 751a, and I have it operational!! I was able to tx and rx in digital modes in WSPR and I was listening only on FT-8. I am using WSJT-X to control the rig, and it is working with only a little tweaking to get the PPT to work on the CAT interface.
I had multiple WSPR contacts on 20M starting about 4p from California all the way to Austria at 5W. TX isn't the problem. RX seems to be less sensitive that I would like. I suspect this is the function of the age of my rig, and the antenna.
That I was able to RX multiple stations in North America makes me very happy.
Now I just need to learn to use FT8 properly so I can TX without sounding like a total neophyte.
Thanks, 73,
Ed L.
Just as update, I've now made a 10M FT-8 contact with success with someone down in Phoenix metro. I'm calling this a success!
