I have a barn-find Astatic D-104 that I am interested in refurbishing.
It is fair condition and was last used almost 30 years ago.
Here is a photo.
I has the 4 pin mic connector.

Mach just restored one of these. His was a 1930's vintage, I believe.
I don't know if he's the "Guru" you're looking for, but he put together a great write up in his boat anchor thread over on the ArfCom site.
