Guys,

I've attached at EzNec (Demo) file of a ground level vertical loop that I'm trying to work out for the side of my house (HOA).

If I use a 1:1 Balun the SWR is pretty manageable at 40, 20, 15 and 10m.  The emission pattern for  20, 15 and 10m at 30deg does not appear horrible at about +3 dbi.  I am primarily looking at tuning this for the low phone range in the bands.

What am I missing?

Thanks,

Ed L.

Retrying attachment as .ez files aren't allowed.

I got nuthin' Ed other than to say a PRA presentation on antenna modeling would be at the top of my wish list!

I modeled my 160M OCF dipole in cocoaNEC (Mac software) and while it's kinda recognizable to what the antenna analyzer says, it's still a loooong ways off.

Guys,

Well, I got the new coax from Dan.  Thank you Elmers for the lovely crimping work.  I made a 4:1/1:1 switchable balun, and threw up the wire over the side of my house.  60x10ft rectangle loop, with the balun at the center bottom.  My SWR without tuner (at 10W) is below 1.5:1 on 40, 20, 15 and 10M.

I found on the new one that there was much less static on 20, 15 and 10, but 40 was still a bit muddy (Daylight hours).  I will test on some distant commercial stations tonight, and see what the differences are between the antennas.  My signal is a bit lower (maybe -1 S), but my noise in a direct comparison is about -5S, except on 40.

The testing continues!

Thanks,

Ed L.

A little more testing overnight.

When I was checking out the Eastern or Western AM broadcast bands down around 0.590, I consistently got +4 s points higher.  Stations north and south were a bit stronger, but definitely less noise.

At 40M I was S5 for static down from S8, and at 20, 15, and 10M I was S0 or S1 for static.  I was still receiving stations on all bands, but not any beacons (at night).

I was also able to make a 10W QSO with our local K0CHK (thank you Chuck) on 14.282.  I think I have a valid antenna.

Thanks,

Ed L.
